At Your Service

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. —Mark 10:45 (NIV)

I was reading the morning paper today, enjoying an article about a lovely woman who connects with people through cooking. She provided several delicious-sounding recipes, particularly for interesting salads. This approach appeals to me, for I always make a basic salad when it’s time to have people over. At the end of her article she says this: “Drop me a line. As always, I’m at your service.” “At your service.” I thought that her way of ending her article was clever and upbeat, and I immediately thought of Jesus, who is always at our service. The phrase tells someone that this person is ready and willing to serve them and help them in any way needed. And this is just who Jesus is. He is here for us 24/7, day in and day out, to serve and provide us his guidance, his comfort, his peace, his joy, his everything that we may need. He is always and forever at our service, having given up his life for our salvation, empowering us to step out and live each day basking in his love. At this season of Lent, when we not only pray for repentance and seek his will in our lives, let us also celebrate his power in us, as he is always at your service!
