That’s Just the Way It Is

Now they (the disciples) know that everything You (God) have given Me (Jesus) comes from You. For I gave them the words You gave Me, and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me. —John 17:8 (NIV)

That’s just the way it is. I have heard this phrase countless times over my 65 years of living. The first time I heard it was from my parents, who used it quite often with my brothers and me to let us know that whatever they said was “just the way it is,” just the way things were going to be, with no more discussion. Ever since then, I have heard other people use it with the same intent. To let the listener know that whatever the discussion is, the facts or statements being discussed are not changing, that they are set in stone and going to be however they are phrased. And so it is with Jesus. He is the Son of God and the Son of Man—that’s just the way it is. Our heavenly Father knew before he formed the earth that he would send his only Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to earth to save us from our sins. Now some people refute that, not wanting to believe that Jesus is our Savior, sent by our Heavenly Father to us who are sinners in need of a Savior. But the truth of the matter is no reasoning, no comparing, no discussion can change this undeniable fact. How blessed we his children are to know our Lord in a close and personal way through his calling us to his side. His guiding, his caring, his helping, his loving us throughout each and every day. No amount of talking will ever change what we know deep in our hearts and with certainty in our minds. Our Jesus has come and will forever be Savior, Teacher, Friend, and that’s just the way it is!
