Whack-A-Mole

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. —Hebrews 4: 16 (NIV)

I love to go to a children’s game place with my grandchildren for many reasons, but one of them is that I cannot stop myself from playing the game there called Whack-A-Mole. This is a free-standing game where little mechanical moles pop up in random order. Attached to the game is a mallet that one uses to whack the moles as they pop up at random, causing them to recede. It is quite fun, requiring good eye-hand coordination to succeed. It reminds me of life and how the “moles” of trials in our lives pop up in random fashion. We are called to hit them with a “mallet” to get them to recede. Praise God that we have a mallet that provides perfect control, perfect vision, perfect timing, and it is Jesus. He is the one who gives us the strength to pop these trials down in his timing, restoring our lives with his mercy and grace. So as we move through our days and life’s troubles pop up as we know they will, we can rest assured that because we know the love of Jesus Christ, we will be restored time and again, moving forward through his perfect love.
